Who We Are and What is The Brown Lion Bazaar?
Stephen Browne
Anna Lyons
The Brown Lion Bazaar is born from a life of travel, curiosity, and respect for culture and a play on our names.
Between us, we have spent over 50 years working in international development, biodiversity, and environmental protection. Alongside this, we have travelled to more than 70 countries and lived in three, collecting not only objects but also experiences: the colours of markets, the flavours of kitchens, the rituals of communities, the beauty in the everyday.
Travel has shaped us, but it has also deepened our appreciation for our own roots. British culture is rich in tradition, regionality, and seasonality, yet so much of this is being forgotten. Where once objects were made with care, passed down through generations, and cherished for their beauty as well as their function, today they are too often mass-produced, disposable, and environmentally harmful.
The Brown Lion Bazaar is our response. We are creating a lifestyle brand that celebrates tradition while embracing the curious and the quirky, offering people a chance to bring meaning, beauty, and responsibility back into their lives.
Our collections will combine handmade objects inspired by British craft with influences gathered from around the world. We will offer carefully curated pieces from our travels, foods and drinks that honour seasonality, and even spaces to stay and experience the ethos of the Bazaar first-hand.
At its heart, The Brown Lion Bazaar is about choice — giving people the opportunity to choose objects and experiences that have stories, significance, and soul, while reducing their impact on the environment.
We want to avoid the mundane. We want to celebrate the curious. We want to make the everyday extraordinary.
