On Lombok the gecko is a symbol of good luck, contra to many other culture in SE Asia and the Middle East.

The figure has a lovely, pleasing face and is partly blackened by smoke, but now waxed and presented to display the beauty of the wood, the carving and the care taken to enhance an everyday item.
